Russian Blue Cats

Russian Blue cats are a breed of cat which originated in Russia. They are called Russian Blue cats due to their silvery-blue fur color. These cats, though shy around strangers, tend to be friendly and playful with the people that they know well. They are sometimes referred to as Archangel Blue cats. This is because they were brought to the Archangel Islands by sailors in the 1860′s. There are also British Blues, which are unrelated to Russian Blue cats.

Russian Blue cats have several distinguishing features. The first, is obviously, its color and coat. The next is that they have deep green eyes. This is very rare in any other breeds and so gives Russian Blues a unique appearance. They are a short haired cat, but have a double coat of fur. This gives them a thick, luscious coat. Another very unique trait is that their footpads are mauve, while most other breeds are grey. Their tails have very pale stripes on them. They are so pale, most people do not think that they have any stripes.

Russian Blue cats are not prone to any illness or injury, and tend to live between ten and fifteen years of age. A Russian Blue litter can have anywhere from one to six kittens, but generally will have between two and four.

In the 1970′s, a separate breed was made from the Russian Blue which was pure white. this breed is called the Russian White and is recognized in many competitions.

The cats are quite gentle and playful. They are shy around strangers. They love routine even more that most cats do and also hate change even more than most cats do. They will likely get angry with you if something changes drastically. Also, they are smart cats, so don’t think that you can change something and trick them, they will never fall for that.
