Caring For Great Dane Puppies

Caring for a great dane puppy can be amusing. It is unlike taking care of just about any other type of puppy because they grow so fast and they have such an amusing temperament. Here are a couple of things to take into consideration when raising a great dane puppy.

They grow really fast and they look kind of like concentration camp survivors while they are growing. Their growth basically exceeds their ability to eat so they are very skinny at first. This can be kind of alarming and while you will get used to the look other people may think that you are starving your puppy.

Great dane puppies usually eat between 6 – 10 cups of food per day. This should be spread out between a couple of feedings. It is also a good idea to supplement with some other raw foods and vitamins. You can puree fruit and veggies and feed dogs raw meat and bones. Start small with raw food and give their stomachs a chance to adapt and make sure that the meat is fresh.

Make sure that your puppy has plenty of time outside especially shortly after they eat. As I have mentioned, dane puppies eat a lot and it doesn’t take them long for nature to call. I speak from experience when I say that you want your dane puppy house trained as fast as possible.

Great dane puppies are very playful and also very big. This can equal a dangerous situation for small children. Puppies will not mean any harm but they can be a bit like a bull in a china shop!

Dane puppies will chew, they will chew you, they will chew shoes that are left out, and they will chew furniture. The best way to combat their chewing is to give them good alternatives for chewing like bones and toys. If toys don’t work, bones will, put them all over the house and make sure that your dane has alternatives.

Having a dane puppy can be a lot of work but it can also be a joy. Take the steps to make sure that your great dane puppy is well adjusted and a good addition to your family.
